it's possible to create a 3ds file from a progecad drawing.
but is it also possible to convert a given 3ds file into dwg or dxf-file?

Dear thomasullmann,

Normally you wouldn't have to.

progeCAD can export STL files from solid models and DXF from wireframe surfaces. Both of these are data formats which 3DS Max can read directly.

Please let us know if there is something more specific you are looking for.

Thanks.

i have also find some other free models of other cars but they where 3ds-files. So now i am seaching the way to translate the 3ds file into the dwg Format for al later Import into my drawing.

Importing 3DS files isn't supported directly in progeCAD yet.

Meshlab might work for you (its free) but beware its open source ware that tends to crash a lot on some people. We tried it on both Windows and Linux machines (we rolled our own using MinGW) and ironically this one seemed a lot more stable than the "stable" one packaged in the Linux distro we use - esp when reading 3DS files.

You might download it and give it a try anyway. Let us know how you go with it.
