I have been sent a 3D drawing that I would like to convert into 2D - for ease of quick documentation. Can all information be compressed into 2D so that offsetting, filleting, trimming etc all works nicely in a single plane?
Welcome Suzanne,
There are several ways to create 2D detail drawings in progeCAD from 3D designs - especially ACIS solid models. Quickly here is one way when given an ACIS solid:
The simplest way to do this is by creating multiple floating viewports in paper space (layout), assigning different 3D viewpoints, render styles and view scales to each viewport and dimensioning the features. We can also use the SECTION command provided in progeCAD to create a true cross-sectional REGION profiles which can even be exploded for further dimensioning if you wish:
In progeCAD what many users do is assign viewport borders, original 3D part, sections and annotation to different layers. Using the layer command, layers can be frozen from visibility in the current active viewport so that, say, only the section layer entities are visible. The viewport borders themselves are also hidden (turned off) from the master workspace.
It should be noted that this is a broad topic which is not completely covered here. Subjects like this one are covered more thoroughly in our classroom and online CAD software training seminars.
