I have played around more with the Flat Area Selections and I can now choose to pocket holes before I profile the edges. However, when I go to profile the edges, it still wants to go inside and profile the internal holes that I previously cut using the Hole Pockets.

(As an example, consider the gasket example or a simple flat washer. I need to cut the centre material away first before I cut the outside profile. When I cut the outside profile I want to avoid going back inside to try and re-cut the inner circle a second time - the part is now loose from the stock and would be damaged if I recut it.

Is there a way that I can select only the outside edges of the profile to be cut and to ignore the inner features?

Thanks
Thanks! The key was the Flat Area Containment - this was not really mentioned in the Getting Started Guide but does solve all my questions for this post and my other post.

Subject: Alibre CAM select drill point locations w/ "Diameter Fi
Posted: Fri Jul 23, 2010 4:18 pm (GMT 0)

Hello Leon,

This should normally be pretty straight-forward in Alibre CAM.

Please have a look at what is currently listed at the left as the "Current Hole Feature(s) Selected" for the drilling Hole Features, once you tick "Use diameter filter".

In the example list below we have "FlatArea1" listed. If your list is empty when you go to "Generate" the hole feature, it could well explain the error you are getting. This would return an empty set - as if filtering nothing.

We usually use a 3D part representation of the job part and select all of the top faces using "Select Holes on Flat Area" first, making that our Selected Feature, then setting the Diameter Filter:

Hi

(not sure if nesting is strictly the right term). I have a part to profile out of acrylic sheet. The part has several internal holes that need to be milled before the outside is cut (eg the gasket example in the sample tutorial that comes with CAM 2.0).

Can the internal holes be forced to cut before the outer profile? Or do I have to have these on separate sketches?

Thanks
Subject: Customer logo apperes slightly distorted in DWG file
Posted: Fri Jul 23, 2010 7:32 am (GMT 0)

Hi Sen,

It sounds like several problems with the title block itself, can discuss one by one:

Quote:

unlike other occasions when I have inserted customer title block, I could edit all title block text on the drawing itself. But this time it is not allowing any editing.

Are you loading it using a DWT drawing template? Is this title block part of a DWG block or proxy object? What type of entity is detected in the properties palette or list command when you select the title block?

Make sure that you are working in the master layout workspace and not within one of the viewports (do you have an oversized viewport?)

Quote:

My problem is customer has their company logo in their title block drawing and when I insert it logo get distorted beyond recognition. Note: Even when I opened customer drawing the logo apperes slightly distorted. I copied and pasted it outside the of the drawing boundries of the title block drawing then the logo apperes correctly.

Sounds maybe like graphics bug from either overlapping blocks or proxy objects, but unfortunately the problem is too ambiguous for an immediate answer...

How old is the title block - what CAD program does it come originally from? Is this title block holding an image, a shape, another nested block inside it or just draw geometry?

Of course, I trust that you already ran the standard "audit" and "purge" commands to check for data errors that could be resulting in random display errors?

In case of DWG data corruption, you might want to check the tips posted here:
http://www.caddit.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1179#1179
_________________
CAD Software Support

Subject: Drilling - hole size filtering
Posted: Fri Jul 23, 2010 7:18 am (GMT 0)

Hi,

I have (for example) 3 hole sizes in a part. If I choose CAM (version 2.0) and Drill I get to the page that requests

"Select Drill Points" . I then select my sketch from the design explorer and "Region 1" shows in the left panel.

If I then tick "Use Diameter Filter" and choose a min of 4mm and a max of 6mm (so that I pick up my 5mm holes) then choose "Generate" then I receive an error "No machining features/geometry found! Please select..."

I read thru the example but I can't see what I need to do differently.

Actually I also have a second question that ties in here:

If I have a sketch that has holes to be drilled and parts to be profile routed, I can set up a drilling operation to drill all the holes first but when I then try and profile it the software wants to also mill the holes that have already been drilled. Is it possible to ignore round holes when I profile, given that they have just been drilled. Or do I need to have separate sketches for the holes and the profiles, which seems to be the way the tutorials handle this. If I do need separate sketches then is it possible to move items from one sketch to another?

Thank you

Hello dscouser,

Simply uninstall progeCAD 2010 completely from the first PC, then re-install & activate progeCAD on the new PC using the same license code.

Registration process is exactly like the first. You can re-activate your license automatically online and finish. If your new PC is not connected to the internet, you will have to re-activate progeCAD 2010 manually using the "email" method which saves a "Registration.cad" file to the desktop. Copy this file over to a PC with email and send it to the address indicated inside this file.
_________________
CAD Software Support

Hi All,

I am using ProgeCad 2010. I have completed a drawing in model space and insereted customer supplied title block drawing in paper space. Open few view ports to get the drawig details from model space to paper space.

Futher unlike other occations when I have inserted customer title block, I could edit all title block text on the drawing itself. But this time it is not allowing any editing. Therfore I have edited the title block text seperatly and save as a new file and inserted it to my drawing. Now evertime I open the drawing some text is out of place.

Could you point me in to tutorial or some way of fixing this problem please?

Reagrds

Thanks for the reply.

I found that the registry entry for the AppID was missing. I added this manually to match one from another PC and it works now.

VBA worked within Progecad fine already. Progecad was just not registered.

Cheers

Hello waldoverkill,

progeCAD VBA requires registration of ActiveX interface in core system registry. VBA uses this ActiveX interface to access the "intellicad" objects.

Did you ever run progeCAD on this PC as a full systems administrator? progeCAD must be run at least one time with full systems admin rights to complete the installation of the ActiveX registry. You might also try running your script in an admin session just to check.

Otherwise you may need to re-install progeCAD VBA as described HERE.

Please let me know if either of these steps help fix the issue for you.
_________________
CAD Software Support

Subject: Steps to fix an AutoCAD DWG file that is crashing
Posted: Mon Jul 19, 2010 9:13 am (GMT 0)

Hello 10augustus,

We are going to treat the hatching issue as separate from the crashing issue. More often now, crashes are linked to editing older legacy drawings rather than starting with new drawings.

When ever such drawing-related "stability" issues are reported, please always remember to post the following details with your problem description:

1) System configuration - OS & SP version, RAM, HD, Printer type, Anti-virus software, progeCAD Version including patch version..
2) RESULTS from AUDIT command - any errors?
3) Background of drawing being edited - where does it come from, how big (MB), any blocks or XREFs including layout border blocks (how old are the block or xref files?)
4) Steps to repeat the crash - if possible

Things you can try:
1) Check the system error log for details of the crash
2) Ask us to send the crash reporting tool HERE
3) What happens when you run the audit command - any errors found?
4) "Save as" DWG earlier version i.e. 2002 under different file name, close and reopen progeCAD & load the 2002-version file
5) Open a new blank file and copy-paste the entire drawing to the new file and save under a different name. Close and restart progeCAD, open new saved file and run audit for any errors.
6) The next step, after all the above has been carried out unsuccessfully, is to email the drawing to us.
_________________
CAD Software Support
